My interests, past and present

hey check this out. here shown as series + when i got into them as a fan (reading/playing/watching most of the series, genuine interest in the universe in question). if franchises are very connected by being set in the same universe, by the same studio, or inspired by it to have the same fandom i've grouped them. you can click them to learn more.

it was dif drawing the line between stuff im "a fan of" because sometimes i will read all of a series and like it without it keeping my interest(team fortress), and i will also enjoy something immensily with no real desire to linger on it fandom style. so my "fandoms" are ofc made up of series that facilitate fan engagement. and also i cant list things like architectual theory and history because its not a franchise interest (but i can say im a big pathologic fan...)

WARNING: to get with me you must defeat my 7 evil past fandoms. youp every person in each fandom. will take at least an arc with filler and a movie. sorry

my "main fandom"? 100% homestuck

one diff thing about this was time-basing stuff, because sometimes you just flirt with a series before eating it all. recently though ive started to refer to years as "the one i got into x". i spent a year basically reading scps and then replayed half life for real since i was a kid. so above is when i was spending a lot of my free time with one series. below is more when i had a general interest in the things and interacted with the fandoms. why does time really matter? just reflecting on my personal development i guess. predictably, i was into adventure stories when i was youngest, internet series as a teen, and horror as an adult. im one of the people that grow out of family cartoons ive found. and i get into stuff late, hey im 2 years old.... i only get to know triple a games because people gift them to me!

Interest map

On the following image ive tried to map out how my interests relate to each other to identify what i like in a series. ive had subject matter and tone in mind. as you might have noticed by now i kinda follow the zeitgeist but i also fall off in places. I made this because i had been doing an "inspiration folder" for art school which contains everything that inspires you from any source, and i had some media collected for how i can make my own writing style and tone more like something i myself want to read. stay in touch with your fetishes.. always!!!!

feel very very free to use this for recommendations :3 if you like two series next to eachother you will probably like what falls between them!

i have some stories for how i got into the fandoms:
mlp: i was watching newgrounds cartoons on youtube (2006-2012 was basically the golden age of cartoons on yt) when i saw this day aria which i liked and then what my cutie mark is telling me which made me decide to watch the show. i think i even started with that episode (uploaded to yt lol) anyway a lot of mlp fanworks hosted their vids on youtube but had tumblr and fimfiction so i ended up with a bunch of ask blogs/webcomics bookmarked in my browser until i took the plunge and got a tumblr account. used tumblr for many things like ask blogs and art and gimmick blogs but no claims to fame (maybe one i got recognized irl for but wasnt mlp) but mostly good times with friends.

homestuck: it was really popular on tumblr. i read a lot of webcomics at the time. i dont remember exactly what post but during the omegapause it was an ideal time to get caught up. i was actually talking to people on the now defunct quizup app as a forum and we formed a rp group, my first brush with that kinda thing. i also started cosplay at this time and met all my best friends through homestuck. its like a secret code in school for "queer nerd who doesnt take themselves too seriously and is probably very politically and self aware". id never recommend making friends with someone because of an interest alone but homestuck has facilitated the best social experiences for me. if that doesnt make sense to you then i have also met the manic homestucks, they are usually not actually readers but involved in the fan culture for its popularity and you can usually tell their character from their secondary interests.

zelda: now this one is stupid i asked my parents for miracle mask for my birthday and they couldnt get it in stores (i had to wait til 3ds games got on emulator to play it) but the gamestop employee thought they wanted majoras mask hd. obviously not the correct entry to the series but it was exactly what i wanted out of my game.

half life: always just had it as a steam/valve kid but never really played it through for the story as an adult until the inappropriate speech replacement was in development so i wanted to play it with that but it never came out so i just went vanilla. had a great time then caught up with memes and watched hlvrai. I followed wayne as a tumblr funnyman for a while but i actually unfollowed him when he started streaming in 2018 because i generally find streams a reductive waste of time. but rtvs have done some innovative things over the years and ive loved watching them.

dmc: i had gotten ahold of the ps2 from my brother (i wanted it so i came and took it) and was collecting games from the local store, my friends got me dmc1 knowing nothing about it and it was just coincidially exactly what im into. a devilman inspired series in the cunty tone of jjba? awesome. i also vibe with the gameplay quite a lot. obviously like anything close to ones other interests ive had brushes with the series over the years but i genuinely thought it was the same as final fantasy which i have no interest in. i remember a guy in the capital in 2019 going off about how good the series was at me but you know that kinda thing doesnt get you into a series. it at most makes you look like a walking ad

the rest are pretty standard. something is popular, i see an interesting outtake and give it a shot and i go through all its installments. i guess i wanna mention that i read mp100 as it came out as a webcomic and the experience of the monthly updates and waiting for the raws to be translated and being able to comment on the page with tsukkomis was really fantastic to be a part of. i dont think people that only watch the anime are aware of this aspect to it.
