Kôji Shiraishi's extended ectoplasmic worm cinematic universe fanpage

His movies and shows are mockumentary/found footage in-universe straight to dvd and Youtube (it gets meta) horror. The experience is like watching a roleplay adventure with recurring, established roles that are changed slightly between universes and compliment eachother by playing with your expectations and being played by other actors. Its a tale of one found footage horror directors attempts to get relevant. Eldritch horrors are abundant here, huge recommendation if you write roleplay scenarios for Call of Chtulhu or the like. Some of the work goes greatly into antisocial systemic issues, and he creates great villains he asks us to be sympathetic to which makes for uncomfortable and truly absurd scenarios.

watch order:

In these found footage movies, a world-threatening disaster comes to light:

  • Noroi (the Curse) 2005
  • Occult 2009
  • Cult 2013
  • A Record of Sweet Murder 2014

The existence of the dimensional threat is not acknowledged, so Shiraishi, as Tashiro, is hired by Kudo and Ichikawa to make a spectacle of the supernatural in a series:

  • Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi: The Most Terrifying Movie in History 2014

The two are lost in an alternate universe, then the universe is rewritten and Ichikawa and Kudo continue to make movies even though they lost their memory.

  • Senritsu Kaiki File Super Kowa Too! Dark Mystery: Kokkuri-san + Snake Woman 2015

Meanwhile in a third alternate universe, Shiraishi and Ichikawa make a movie without Kudo:

  • Welcome to the Occult Forest 2022

After some years on the low, the team returns to film a movie:

  • Senritsu Kaiki World Kowasugi! 2023

We are looking forward to what Shiraishi films next! He also has many more movies in the style that don't use this connected plot.

Main recurring characters:

Cameraman Kôji Shiraishi, Tashiro (Kôji Shiraishi)

Being meta and a mockumentary, Shiraishi plays a character based on himself, and makes fun of himself as the cameraman often.

Assistant director Miho Ichikawa (Mayu Hotta, Chika Kuboyama)

Host of the show and good cop in interviews,  but Ichikawa doesn’t mind making the interviewed uncomfortable to get her scoop. Unlike Kudo, she is vary of the supernatural and tends to avoid dangerous situations.

Director Kudo Jin (Shigeo Ôsako)

Formally, Kudo is the main character of the series. He experiences a tragic backstory, fights with signature weapons, experiences transformations in great fights, and has adventures across universes. He is a violent anti-hero though. He is always anticipating when things escalate so he can get violent with monsters or people.

Shôhei Eno (Shôhei Uno)

Eno is a victim of supernatural influence in the start, but changes a lot over the movies. Becoming both a villain and a hero. He is by far the most interesting, and likely the reason for the “universe reset” formula, because Shiraishi wanted to do more with him. He is important, but he never becomes a main character because he avoids the tropes and is very untrustworthy.

NEO, Nanashi (Ryosuke Miura, Hiroki Iijima)

Neo is a strong exorcist who calls himself a meta-human. it is unclear to what extent his life is truly unique or what he makes up to make himself seem cool. maybe he is just very cool. Unlike the other exorcists

every case has many interesting personalities and there are also more characters that appear across movies!
